Control Body Motion with Quality Shocks and Struts

Here at Courtesy Nissan of Tampa, we recognize the significance of maintaining your shocks and struts in good condition. Shocks and struts dampen spring oscillations and control how your vehicle moves over bumps and during cornering. These hydraulic components prevent excessive bouncing and maintain stable tire contact with pavement. We carry genuine Nissan shocks and struts engineered to deliver consistent damping performance throughout their service life.

How Shocks and Struts Dampen Movement

Shocks and struts contain hydraulic fluid that flows through calibrated valves to resist spring motion. When suspension compresses or extends, fluid movement creates resistance that slows the action. The Nissan Altima and Nissan Pathfinder use damper designs tailored to their specific weight and handling characteristics. Struts also function as structural suspension members while shocks focus solely on damping. These components coordinate with your wheels to maintain controlled contact with road surfaces during all driving maneuvers.

Why Dampers Eventually Fail

Internal seals deteriorate from age and allow pressurized hydraulic fluid to leak out. The damping fluid breaks down from heat generated during normal operation. Piston rods become scratched or bent from road impacts and debris. External corrosion attacks the housing and mounting hardware over time. Generic aftermarket dampers frequently use cheaper seals and lower-grade fluids that fail much sooner than genuine Nissan components.

When Dampers Need Replacement

Replace shocks and struts when excessive bouncing continues after hitting bumps. Visible fluid leaks around damper bodies indicate failed seals requiring immediate replacement. Uneven tire wear patterns suggest worn dampers no longer controlling suspension movement properly. Inspect dampers every 50,000 miles for leaks, damage, or degraded performance that affects ride quality and handling.
